DID YOU KNOW ABOUT – PLASTIC BAGS

Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.

Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year.

UK consumers use over eight billion plastic carrier bags per year. = 134 bags per person

Plastic waste, such as plastic bags, often becomes litter. For example, nearly 57% of litter found on beaches was plastic.
