Toxic chemicals in our environment threaten our rivers and lakes, our air, land, nature and oceans, and ultimately ourselves and our future.

Of the 4,893 tonnes of chemicals that we brought in 2001 only 5-10% will be disposed of properly, 20-30% will end up down the drain where they will pollute the water table and endanger wildlife, and the rest will sit on the shelf or hide in cupboards – where they may pose a threat to humans

There are approximately 100.000 chemicals available on the EU market.

Some of these chemicals are in our every day cleaning products that we inhale and are thrown in our bins

Researchers have suggested that over 2 per cent of the population - equal to more than 1,000,000 people in the UK - are thought to be allergic to fragrances in household products. It is thought that the number of people allergic to these chemicals is increasing.
