DID YOU KNOW ABOUT – FOSSIL FUEL ENERGY

The problems associated with fossil fuel use are that the extraction of fossil fuels causes local environmental problems including noise, dust, and groundwater pollution. The burning of fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases and other harmful particulate into the atmosphere causing wider environmental problems

Fossil fuels are a finite energy source that will eventually run out. As fossil fuel reserves run low, the cost of retrieving them will increase significantly, making this form of energy production more expensive than others.

Our current modes of energy production mean that our energy demands are leading to huge emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, which is a direct cause of enhanced greenhouse effect, that is responsible for global climate change.

WAYS OF SAVING ENERGY
Kettle

When making a hot drink, only boil the amount you require. If everybody did this for just one day it is estimated that the energy saved could light every street lamp in the UK the following night.

It is estimated that if every household in the UK uses just one environmental light bulb we could close one power station.

Switch off the TV when you go to bed.

Don’t use the tumble dryer – hang up your clothes

Check for draughts and stop heat escaping from your home.

Don’t site your cooker next to your fridge.

Don’t put object in front of the heater.

Only heat the rooms you need to use
