Why should I walk, I pay to use my car like other people and what real damage am I doing driving down the road
Exhaust gases from vehicles include substances like nitrogen dioxide, which can affect people’s health, especially the very young, old and people with lung damage or asthma.
We all grow old and many of us have children or grandchildren, so it effects us all.

Why should I recycle, it all goes in landfill site and there is lots of them
Most of the waste produced in England and Wales is sent to landfill. In the past it was easy to dispose of waste this way, as it was cheap and space was often available in old quarries. Space approved for landfill is set to run out in the next five to ten years.

So I throw a bit of rubbish out here and there, but it’s not my problem, others are paid to clear it up
Some people may be unaware that they are responsible for disposing of waste correctly. Some are unwilling to spend the time and money to do it correctly; others are professional criminals that dump waste for financial gain.
If the councils have to sort this out, we all pay including nature

Nature looks after itself and there is plenty of wildlife around. So we lose one or two animal or plants, but that’s evolution
In the last century, around 170 species of plants and animals became extinct in the UK, such as the mouse-eared bat, the Norfolk damselfly and the summer lady’s tresses orchid. |
I am too busy
to bother |
The weather is always changing and I like hot weather
Experts expect our summers to become drier, but when it does rain it will probably rain harder. At the same time UK winter rainfall may increase by between 5 and 20 per cent, leading to worse and more frequent flooding. Sea levels will rise as the polar ice caps melt, perhaps by as much as 86 centimetres in South East England by 2080. |
So a few trees get cut down abroad. Why should it bother me, it’s their problem
Massive deforestation brings with it many ugly consequences - air and water pollution, soil erosion, malaria epidemics, the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the eviction and decimation of indigenous Indian tribes and the loss of biodiversity through extinction of plants and animals. Fewer rainforests mean less rain, less oxygen for us to breathe and an increased threat from global warming.

When I use chemicals, I don’t care what they contain as long as they work.
Hazardous chemicals are everywhere. In our homes, our schools, in the air we breathe and the food we eat. We are exposed to a cocktail of hazardous man-made chemicals every day of our lives. There are alternatives
